Doctors and her family were hopeful for a while, but after a week in critical care, Shiloh Pepin diedHer condition, also known as sirenomelia, meant that herlegswere fused together. As a result of the condition, Shiloh Pepin only had one partially working kidney, no lower colon, and no genital organs. She was not expected to live for more than a few days after birth, but her mother described her as "a tough little thing."Many patients with the condition are able to have surgery to separate their legs, but blood vessels in Shiloh Pepin's system that crossed from one side to the other
Shiloh Pepin was a fifth-grader in the Kennebunkport Consolidated School. Counselors will be available next week to talk to school mates Pepin, because sad.
