Dr. Maya Angelou, has been rushed to the hospital in Los Angeles according to TMZ. She was in Los Angeles to attend the Brave Heart Awards. Dr. Angelou, age 81, resides in Harlem, New York and Winston-Salem, North Carolina.Many people on Twitter, young and old, are sending get well tweets to Maya Angelou. Her trip to the hospital has many people worried about her and praying for her.Perhaps best known for the book she published in 1970, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings." This book describes her life and her traumas. She was raped at age 7 by her mother's boyfriend; She was traumatized and did not talk to anyone but her brother after her uncles murdered the rapistMaya Angelou's openness about difficult experiences in her life makes her a role model for all women. She has overcome trauma and moved ahead with her life. She inspires young and old alike with her writings and her performances.
Maya Angelou has earned worldwide acclaim as a writer of poetry, novels, and non-fiction. Dr. Angelou also presented an original poem "On the Pulse of the Morning" at the presidential inauguration of Bill Clinton.Maya Angelou was born in 1928 in Saint Louis, Missouri according to her website She has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, has lived in numerous places abroad including Cairo and Ghana.
