Soledad City Council is considering changing a rule that will allow police to enforce lOfficials are hopeful the changes will help parents and children feel more comfortable using parks and playgrounds.aws that prohibit gambling, urinating and drinking alcohol in parks at a meeting next week.
"Yes, we can catch people with beers, but unless we see them drinking, it's difficult to do anything about the alcohol," said Soledad police Lt. Jaime Fernandez. The city ordinance now only prohibits drinking alcohol in public, not having an open container. The amended ordinance, if passed, would make both illegal.Solving the alcohol problem, Fernandez said, will also solve most of the problems residents see at parks."With alcohol comes the urinating and foul language," he said.Soledad Mayor Richard Ortiz said the issue has come up several times at City Council meetings."It got to a point that the council needed to take action," he said.
The public hearing and vote will take place during the meeting of Wednesday's City Council. The statement, if approved, would enter into force 30 days later. Also found violations would be cited and asked to leave the park, said Fernandez. Officials could not provide the cost of an appointment, but would be considered a good offense.
